Elmer had his last day at his Waitati baby music group for a while, and it was dress-up day. The lovely Belinda lent me a bee outfit for him! Isn't it lush??? I thought he would love being a bee since he has an obsession with insects (and bees in particular) but it took him a while to come around, and it was about an hour before he uttered his first "Zzzzzzzzzz".

That's Elmer the bee watching Thomas the Tank Engine, hence the smile. I still want to dress him up as a dinosaur, but I think that should wait till he's a little older. Maybe he can be a sheep next, wouldn't that be cute??!

It's finished. Apart from one tiny bit on the north side that the roofers will come back and do when they have time. It did end up taking longer than expected (shock, horror...), because we had a week's worth of windy days inbetween one end of the roof and another.

I love it. I'm so pleased with the colour - from a distance it just seems to blend into the bush behind. It's dark and inviting and lovely.

The idea of having scorched weatherboard on the side has been scrapped. The design is a work in progress! All the exterior walls will now be rendered. I'm still thinking a nice oatey colour.

Dad.:

Hi Sinead, Great news. I'll tell your mum when she rings tonight from sunny France. She has no internet access. I agree: rendering looks like a better option than scorched wood.

Liana:

did you drink beer?? don't you always do that after the roof goes on!! yay a roof!!

(07.12.11 @ 04:02 PM)

The straw has arrived for the walls of our house. This comes as a bit of a relief actually because it's been a long wet summer with conditions that aren't ideal for drying out and baling straw. We intended to have hay cut on our property, but we didn't have a few successive days of dry weather for the last few months, and weren't able to have it cut. We might have to buy some in to feed the cattle over winter!

So having these bales safely tucked away in the barn makes us feel good. The roof is going on this week (YEAHHHHH!!!!!) and things are looking up.

You may notice Elmer has a rash on his face in the image above... the rash developed later on that day into something very unpleasant, and we ended up in A&E! It was pretty awful, and we didn't get home until 3.30am, but he is absolutely fine now. He was diagnosed with a condition called HSP which can affect children after they have a chest infection. The doctor said he got off very lightly considering. Poor boy. He did enjoy saying "HI!" to the people in the Emergency waiting room, and now and again poking a woman on the bum (it protruded behind her seat), to provide us with some occassional light relief!

And where I'll live soon....

We're almost ready for the roofers. A council inspector visits on Thursday, Steven just has to box out the skylights, and then the roofers can start.... if it is dry.

It looks really big from inside. I can't believe we'll have all that space after two years of barn living!

Thanks guys. The council inspector stayed for ages - he was so impressed with Steven's work and he wants to build his own strawbale house! So funny. Very pleased to see all this progress.

I was looking forward to this time of the year when my weddings were over for the season, thinking I would have TONS of time on my hands to do all the little projects that have been waiting for me. Including blogging. Somehow though, the weeks are flying by and my blog has lain unattended. So have all those other projects. Except actually the cutlery drawer - I did manage to clean out the cutlery drawer the other day which was thrillling, but not quite thrilling enough to blog about. My mum reminded me on Skype today that when she checks my blog in work of a morning, there are NO Elmer photographs waiting for her. She guilted me into blogging today.

Elmer hasn't been his usual lively (photographed) self recently. He's been sick with colds or a cough on and off for weeks. I've not been that well either, and the combination of sick baby, sick me, winter, and the general admin that takes up any spare time I have means that I've not been so active with my camera lately. Here is my sick little boy:

He's still beautiful even when he's ill. I just want to be able to magic him better. We've had a few happy days inbetween illnesses when we've got out and about. Here's Elmer in the museum:

ElmermuseumMay11-003.jpg

He took his first independent steps this month, but still likes to walk along holding a hand or some furniture.

We couldn't miss the model train exhibition in Dunedin recently. Elmer LOVES trains ("ch ch ch ch")....

My two geeks together.

Now, we only have two hours to kill before Elmer's doctor's appointment. Unfortunately the Hungry Caterpillar DVD only lasts 30 minutes!

Awwwwwwww! Poor Elmer. Great photos though. How long is the exhibition? You should go in every day, just to get that smile!

tehehehe I couldn't help but giggle just a little at that second pic - looks like a serious case of man flu! They learn young huh?!

Ha, yes they do. And I totally give in to it (for the baby, not the grown man!)
