Inbetween bad weather and work, Steven has been busy on the house build. I was out this week on a lovely sunny afternoon recording the progress he's made on the front wall...

Steven's brother Grant watching Elmer for us... although he looks more like a bouncer than a babysitter here....

The great thing about this stage is that we can see where all the doors and windows fit. Elmer is sitting infront of a big picture window below.. there will be a nice wide window seat underneath for lying on and reading books:

The dogs are thinking "That's it, you just stand around looking innocent cows.... but one slip-up and we're on to you.."

Just thought I would let everyone know my calendar for the next few months. Elmer and I will be out and about quite a bit and I don't want anyone to think I've forgotten them.

27th July: Fly out of Christchurch with Elmer, my friend Julie, and Elmer's baby friend Erin.

28th July: Arrive at London Heathrow and meet Elmer's Gran and Grandad!

12th August: Leah and Chris's wedding in Cardiff

21st August: Aislinn and Tom's wedding in Winchester

11th September: Aidan (my brother!) and Katie's wedding in Yorkshire

16th September: Fly out of London Heathrow headed back to New Zealand

25th September: NZ wedding season begins in earnest with a wedding up in sunny New Plymouth!

I also have a few portrait sessions to schedule in the UK so should be sorting those out before I leave, plus a couple of portrait sessions here in Dunedin before I go.

Elmer's passport is being approved as I write, despite the absolute mission of getting his passport photograph taken...

This isn't his passport photograph (but it is very cute) because: 1) His mouth is slightly open; 2) The background is white; and 3) His face takes up less than 70% of the image and is not aligned. If he was wearing sunglasses and a fake beard he would be breaking ALL the rules...

Steven and I already have the dogs, chickens and ducks to keep us company, but as of this week we are now the proud owners of ....four cows! Well, three cows and a male calf. These lovely animals were part bequeathed to us so we feel very grateful - not only are they fine specimens, but they are also extremely good natured and.. well... good looking! The baby is 2 months old and half Highland (big and furry), and two of the three cows are expecting similar calves in the spring. How exciting!

They all seem very content with their new home, and spend a lot of time at the top of the field, watching me, Steven and Elmer go about our business. Oh and Elmer finds the sight of anything munching on hay delightfully funny...

Well, these are just the first two bits of wood that will eventually form the walls of the bathroom in our house, but I cannot tell you how elated I was to see them go up this week! Steven says things should happen fairly quickly now we are onto the actual building stage of the build, rather than all that dull foundation work.

Even as I type this, there are about 6 other bits of wood joining these two, but I'm only just getting around to blogging. They are very tall, and make me think how big the house will seem compared to our little barn conversion.

The last few days I've been dreaming about the finished product. In particular:

 - I want a wind-break slatted fence to go around the edge of the garden area to make the house all cosy and enclosed. I wonder if we'll be able to afford this when the house is finished?

- What type of bath will we have?

- I would like Elmer to have a really magical, colourful bedroom. I wonder what I'll do with his room...

Here's the boy himself examining his Dad's handywork...

I'll blog as much of the build as I can over these next few weeks. If it doesn't rain constantly that is..........

Sarah Andrew:

WOW looking good - free standing baths are always the best - and nice and deep..... a word to the wise, make sure you have a shelf or something made beside it thou to put you bottle of wine on when you are soaking in the bath and looking out at that AMAZING view!

Katie:

I dream of the day we have a flat big enough to have a bath! Aidan and I will definitely be visiting when you have bath installed! But for now we can't wait for you to come here and we can meet our cute nephew x

Sinead Photo:

Yes a free standing bath indeed. I'm thinking a more modern free-stander rather than one with claws though.. and the shelf idea - fabulous! Katie - only 4 weeks to go! x
