So much about life with a baby is about the little successes. As much as you can encourage them to do something, most of the time they take you by surprise and its great. Steven might come home and I'll be so excited, "Look! He can bat the green toy with his hand!! He batted it twice in a row!!", or I'll be out and Steven will text me: "He's grabbing the bottle with his hands and tipping it up himself!" Elmer is taking more notice of the world around him: he smiles at himself in the mirror; looks around to see me from his car seat and grabs hold of toys, hair and clothing. He'll grin at one old lady in the supermarket and then glare solemnly at her friend. I love how ungracious babies are.

Before I had one of my own this kind of babble would have me both slightly bemused and slightly bored. Luckily I have some Elmer fans to share it with. Apologies if you aren't a baby fan, in which case here is a photograph from today to change your mind:

Susan and Andrew are NZers who now live in Belgium, speaking between them all the languages of the world (that's a slight exaggeration but not by much). They travelled back to Dunedin for their wedding which was a very classy, intimate occasion. This wedding had me thinking of classic black and white photography, a la 1950s Paris. Plus I think Susan has a very classical look about her that lends itself to b&w photography..

Alana at PlanitPerfect co-ordinated the day. It's the first time I've worked with her and she was lovely. I think the website may be down but she's in the book if you want to look her up, or look here

Zoe and Michael met in Dunedin whilst at University here (for Dunedinites they met outside the Scarfies house when Zoe was living there!) so we went back to the flat on their wedding day for a few shots. This was such a relaxed and happy wedding, everyone was just really delighted to see Zoe and Michael tie the knot.

Ceremony was on Ocean Beach (there's a beautiful cove at one end) and reception was at Ironic in town. Such nice food at Ironic, and I am forever in love with Zoe and Michael for insisting on us having takeaway dessert since we left before it was served. Liana (my lovely assistant) shared hers with her husband when she got home. I ate mine with my fingers on the way home in the car. Sorry Steven.

We were kind of lucky with the weather since summer here so far has been AWFUL..

Wedding season has begun now for me (was kind of nice to have December off when my folks were here) so I'll have a few more weddings up over the next few weeks. And if it doesn't start getting sunny and hot in Dunedin soon I'm going to move to Fiji.

Liana (the lovely assistant who shared pudding with her husband):

oh nice of ya to mention me Sinead! I have even managed to spot myself a couple of times ooh naughty me, bit like where's wally ya know..I have blended in nicely into the crowd hee. Well now that I have had a mention am I allowed to give the 'assistant' opinion?... Another fine job by you of course and Zoe and Michael and their entourage were such fun. Zoe and Michael had such a great look about them, not a lot of people can pull of that serious look eh that mysterious look!! but they could and you captured it perfectly..just stunning..well that's my opinion anyway

Sinead:

Yes you are allowed to give your opinion Liana - and what a fine opinion it is! I agree, Zoe and Michael rock the urban grunge/chic look magnificently. I did spot you in a photo - you're the other skater at the skate park of course!

Yes Two he gets that one from his Dad. Boy do i dislike being asked to do something when I'm reading and hope that people realise this. I try to read a lot.I think this post will say Sinead. It's not.

Stacey and Paul are a funny, happy, beautiful couple. Not in the triple-whammy way that you might secretly hate them for it, but in the kind of way that they're really good fun to be around and REALLY easy to photograph. When I received their Wedding Questionnaire (that I send to all my couples) in the post, they had both scrawled all over it and it was so funny! I was laughing out loud in my empty little office. Well, I say office, I mean my desk in the corner...

During the shoot I imagined we were in any number of different cities, all within little ole' Dunedin (Stacey and Paul's dog Paige came along for the ride).

Some leafy suburb of Paris maybe:
