I had a whirlwind trip to Auckland last week to catch up with Natalie and Tze and to shoot their intricate and lovely wedding. I met this beautiful couple at Lawrence and Natalie’s Wedding back in 2011, and shot their engagement session here in Dunedin last year (which ended up being coldest, windiest, mistiest shoot…. ever… and yet despite that, Natalie and Tze seemed even happier and more at ease with every misty gust of wind).
It was such an enormous pleasure to meet Natalie and Tze’s extended families, and be welcomed into this long awaited, happy day. I couldn’t have been looked after better. It was one of those days that I was completely at home in my job, and felt like there’s nothing I would rather do more than sneak around after people on their wedding day capturing them, their quick, love-filled glances and all the cheeky kids in the church who became my pals at the dinner reception later on.
Natalie and Tze are very kind, and very humble. At one point in the morning as Natalie glided from room to room finding shoes, earrings, and wedding details (after repeatedly telling me to sit down and eat something), and I captured her and her family as they prepared for the day she looked up at me and made a kind of worried noise. “What’s wrong?” I said. “Um, I’m just.. I’m worried that you might get bored.”
This was a long wedding day but it flew by, and it was lovely to see months of preparation result in everything going perfectly to plan. A morning tea ceremony followed by church wedding, afternoon tea, photographs in the park and a candlelit dinner. Record number of children at a wedding for me too, and that always makes me happy.
Congratulations you two! Thanks for a fabulous day.
