This was a Great Gatsby Themed wedding. Have you seen the film? Who wouldn’t want a Great Gatsby themed wedding! So fabulously stylish and chic. But also very self aware and indulgent, which is cool – because if you can’t be indulgent on your wedding day then when can you be? Georgina’s parents place, which is where the amazing reception took place, is the most incredible property. A lovely home set into the ranges behind Wanaka, with an expansive view right from the back deck. It was a beautiful, calm and hot day, so the gorgeous furniture and florals adorning the outside of the marquee looked amazing and the scattered rose petals stayed put. The whole thing looked straight out of a film set, with deer grazing peacefully in the distance.
And into this scene we can add Georgina and Willie. The sweetest couple ever. And I don’t say that about everyone – these two actually got together at their school prom. She cried when he left to go overseas and he returned home and they’ve been together ever since, travelling the globe, and now creating a beautiful home together. They are very modest too. Georgina for example claims not to be artistic at all, but you should see all the lovely things she’s done at their renovation-in-progress house together so far. Plus the invites she designed for the wedding. And Willie – when I started photographing him getting ready with his groomsmen in Wanaka – was telling his sister in law how he chose the inscriptions (a total surprise for Georgina) for the inside of their wedding bands. He said something like “oh, I’m not imaginative or romantic at all, I couldn’t think of anything. But then I thought what might be nice would be “From the Mountains / To the Sea”. In Spanish”. Because she is from mountainous Central Otago and he is from the coast. HOW lovely is that??
Anyway, it goes without saying that everything went swimmingly. The whole day was organised to a T by Georgina and helpers, and it really was one of those weddings where I couldn’t believe how good looking everything and everyone was. Makes me a bit sad that summer wedding season is coming to an end! Love late summer weddings…
